Jacques is probably the first with name of Maurice to settle in the Laurentides. His sons Charles and Jacques and some of their cousins have descendantes in what is today called the basses and hautes Laurentides, the "Pays-d'en-Haut" as the area was then called until at least the middle of the 19th century.
There are still families named Maurice in the area, and also Lafantaisie. That surname appears to be more common in the Laurentides, and sometimes replaced Maurice.
Jacques and Marie-Josephe had 19 children in 24 years. Of these, at least 12 died at a young age and for some of these, date of birth and death are not available, which means there could be others.
